This is a photographer's blog, and, like so many other photographer's
blog out there, it's geared toward individuals with an interest in the
art and science of photography.
I don't blog many personal
things, and, because of that, you may get the impression that I'm a bit
of an automaton as it pertains to my photography. I don't frequently
exclaim how much I love photography, or what it means to me. Instead, I
post an image, frequently a setup shot, and a short write-up as to how I
got there.
I don't however, talk about the personal side of my photography. I'll take the time to do that here.
I'm
hooked, and make no mistake about it, hooked good. I love the
interplay of light and shadow on an image. The "reveal" of a small
element, nearly invisible on a small LCD or a negative, that changes the
dynamic of an image when printed at the correct size makes hours of
frustration trying to capture that element worth it.
I'm seldom
happier than when I'm surrounded by the smell of developing chemicals,
and the few seconds it takes to pull a roll of wet negatives from a
tank, hang them, and see actual pictures on the film is the closest
thing to magic I've experienced in my adult life.
With my eye and
a camera, I can stop time, if only fleetingly. That moment in time,
when the shutter is open, and the image is exposed, will never happen
again. It can be recreated, remembered, even superseded by something,
but, it will never, ever happen again. That's powerful stuff, and it's a
good way to remember to live in, and for, the moment.
